Many Prague citizens could have been amazed when reading the headlines. The Prague Transit Company announced in early spring that it would allow bikers on trams starting 1 April. Before, bikers in Prague were only allowed to carry their bikes by metro. Although an event of marginal news in the Czech press, it is a positive announcement (the news site iDnes even called it „a revolutionary decision“). It was called revolutionary despite the information which can be found in the fourth line – „the bike transportation“ is allowed only at the weekends (on week days, it is only allowed at night) and only on selected lines operating outside the city centre.

Let's be honest, for everyone who wants to use the bicycle as a means of transportation around the city this information is basically useless. The route plan and timing set by the Prague City Hall – which has an impact on everything related to the transit company – only proves the city officials consider biking a recreational activity. This has nothing to do with a cheap and clean everyday transportation alternative.

On the other hand, we have to admit that complaining about City Hall's policy (city bikers would use any possible argument in this respect) is not the way to solve the problem.
