Do you want to get rid of the euro coins you have brought back from your vacation? Banks will charge you hefty fees and offer a disadvantageous exchange rate. If you save the money for your next vacation, they will lose value because of the strengthening crown. The Prague City Hall offers a solution with its parking policy setting the parking fee for the so-called green zone at CZK 30 or EUR 1 per hour.

„The Prague City Hall sets parking fees in crowns and euros. It can also change them,“ said Jan Pavlíček from Parking Praha, which runs more than 300 parking meters in Prague 1, 2 and 7. He says, however, that people do not take advantage of the favourable exchange rate too much. „The ratio of payments in crowns and euros remains stable,“ he says.

Pavlíček says the fees may change by the end of the year, but the City Hall says it is not planning any changes for the time being. „We aren't considering changing the fees this year for now. The losses from the green parking zone are negligible,“ said Libor Šíma, head of the transport department at the Prague City Hall. He added the parking fee in the orange zone is CZK 40 or EUR 1.5 per hour.

The prices for the green parking zone were set when the euro cost 33 crowns, said Šíma. „We may change this the next time the price list is updated, which could be during the next enlargement of parking zones,“…
