While two years ago the Green Party brought gratitude to the Roma for „contributing to the whole country“, this year the well-wishers are silent. There is not much to celebrate, anyways.
One reason is that Jiří Čunek has returned to the cabinet. Čunek who has become well-known for his decision to move overnight part of the Roma population from Vsetín where he was a mayor, and therefore made it to the list of the US Department of State annual report on the state of human rights in the world. Second reason is the Monday's decision of a municipal office in southern Bohemia to cut spending on the Romani holocaust victims memorial in Lety u Písku.
The pig farm will stay where it is as the Finance Minister Miroslav Kalousek does not find the estimated CZK 1 billion for its replacement a non-realistic amount of money spent from the state budget. Instead, the suggestion is to fix the road leading to the memorial and plant trees along the paths because „when the filth is being removed, bad smell spreads around the pig farm“ as the municipal office says.
